Lucie Update- Feb 23, 2015

Good evening Friends,

We have so many updates tonight!  Lucie has been working hard!  We just have to say thank you to you all for your continued prayers.  God is strengthening our little fighter more and more each day.

Let's start with her weight.  She is now at 1915 grams, or 4 lbs, 3.5 oz.  The rolls are forming little by little around her arms and her legs, and they are just so adorable!  She is taking 35 mL's of milk and vitamins every 3 hour feeding and tolerating it beautifully.  On that note, since she has reached 33 weeks, the nurses have encouraged me to nurse her a little bit and for Robby to help her practice taking a bottle.  We have tried both ways about three times, and sweet Lucie is slowly getting the idea, but gets tired in a matter of minutes.  For now, she will continue to get her feedings through the tube, and we will all just keep practicing while she gets the hang of it.

As you know, the medical team runs her blood work on Monday's and the results showed that her blood count was high, which is great and means they no longer have to give her the medicine for that starting today.  They would give her a shot every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the medication, so you know she is happy to no longer have to deal with that!

When we went in to see her around 7:30 tonight, we were very excited to hear that Lucie had been "sprinting" on Nasal SPONT since 3am this morning!!  They did decide to switch her to Nasal SIMV while we were there, but we were blown away that Miss Lucie Pie had "sprinted" for almost 17 hours!  In addition to that, at 3am, they also shut her Isolette off, which means that she has been responsible for regulating her body temperature all on her own since then!

To say that all of this is miraculous feels like an understatement. It is incredible to see how much she is starting to be able to handle all at once.  All we can say is, Thank You God!  And again, thank you dear friends and family for your prayers that have not stopped and have continued to bless and encourage us with each passing day.  We love you.

Love,

Andrea, Rob, Lucie -Lyn and Bess
