Lucie Update- Jan 13, 2015

Hi Family,

It's Drea here today!  Bet you thought we forgot about you tonight!  How could we?  Sending out these emails each night (soon to be replaced by blog updates) has been such a huge part of being able to process what has happened each day.

It's been a long day, but we still wanted to send out a quick update to everyone!  We just got home from the hospital and were so relieved to hear that after 48-hours, Lucille's blood culture came back negative with no infection!  YAY!  Lucie will continue to receive antibiotics for the course of 7-10 days to ensure that that sucker is completely out of her system!
She has gained 60 grams and is at 890 grams now, and even though it may not sound like much, we can really see a difference in her every day! Her feeds continue to be increased, and hopefully it will get to the point where she will only be taking the milk, and not be taking any of the additional fluids she gets through the IV.  If that's the case, then they may decide they don't need to put in another PICC line when the course of antibiotics is completed.

Thank you all for your notes and replies, we are encouraged by each one of them; here's a verse my mom shared with me this morning, and I thought it perfectly sums up this season for us.  "Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing." (James 1:2-4)  I feel like endurance is the key word there and what we have been praying that the Lord would help us have, and even though we celebrate ever small victory, we know we still have quite a road ahead of us.

Please continue to pray for Lucie-Lyn's brain, that the bleeding would reabsorb, that there would be no swelling or pressure, and that her head and the rest of her body would grow at a normal pace.  Also, please keep praying that the duct in her heart would once again close on its own.  Thank you so much for your continued prayers.  We don't take them for granted.  We know we are only able to make it through each day by God's strength and through your support and prayers.

We love you all!
Drea, Rob, Lucie-Lyn and Bess
